The Pokemon Go craze is sweeping the nation, creating excitement for kids and helping families to get out and exercise together. Recently Niantic released an additional 80 new Pokemon into their lineup from their Generation 2 series. This release brought 2 additional evolutions of one of the fan favorite Pokemon, Eevee, bringing the total Eevee evolutions to 5.
Eevee was included in the original 150 Pokemon and had the ability to evolve into 3 different evolved forms Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon (depending on the type of evolution stone you had). In the 2nd Generation of Pokemon, Eevee acquired 2 additional evolution forms, Espeon and Umbreon, which are now also available in Pokemon Go.
How to evolve Eevee into all 5 evolution phases
When Pokemon Go was first released, players noticed that evolving Eevee generally felt more like a dice roll as to what evolution form you would receive. Now, thanks to some picking and prodding by the community and the help of Niantic, we know a sure-fire way to get each of the evolutions we want.
In order to accomplish this, you must first rename Eevee into one of the 5 names listed below prior to evolution. After you have changed and saved the name, acquire 25 Eevee candies and you are on your way.
Why are these names used for Eevee evolutions?
In the original Pokemon anime series, Sparky, Rainer, and Pyro were three of the four brothers that made up the Eevee Brothers. They were a part of Pokemon Series episode 40, showing off their favorite Eevee evolutions in battle. Tamao and Sakura appeared later in the series as two of the five Kimono sisters which appeared in the 26th episode of Pokemon: Johto League Champions.
It is good to see Pokemon Go pay homage to the original Pokemon series and we are glad that some eager fans were able to find this Easter egg. Hopefully, this gets you 5 Pokemon closer to completing your Pokemon Go Pokedex!
